Dear Friends:

This issue of Colleagues List is abbreviated, but
I hope you will consider my "Thanksgiving Thoughts"
(below) and the other special items I have selected
for you again this week.

SPECIAL ITEM

THANKSGIVING THOUGHTS

Since I have not prepared a book notice for this issue
of Colleagues List and since Marlene and I plan to take
a few days off in Banff National Park this weekend, I
am reducing the size and content of my letter to you.

Thanksgiving is a special "Quality of Life" time for my
partner Marlene and I because, fourteen years ago on
Saturday, October 8th, 2005 we were married in the
soon-to-be-totally restored McDougall Stoney Mission
Church, Morley Alberta and held a reception for family
and a few friends at Nakoda Lodge and Conference
Centre just west of the church.

We celebrated with Turning Leaf Chardonnay from
Napa Valley, California which blended nicely with the
rich yellows of the trees outside on the lake by the
lodge.

The following note was added to my journal entry for
the day. It was written by our new son-in-law Ronnie
Lukan (married to Sarah) who said as follows:

"Thank you for such a wonderful day, congratulations
on your journey together. You make such a fine couple."

(I had married the Lukans a year earlier.)

Reading through my journal entries for those days
reminds me of the great blessings we have received
these past years - because of family and friends, the
church we support, the work we continue to do and
the health we enjoy.

To keep things in perspective, we are frequently
reminded that people pass from this life, experience
family and health disasters, and go through otherwise
very trying times.

I need to remember that, just as many people were
patient and helpful to me when I needed it most, so
also must I live in relationship with others.

At this point in time, I can remember nothing but
blessings. When that time may change and things
get difficult, I will remember these days, and be
grateful.

Wayne, at Thanksgiving, 2019

WISDOM OF THE WEEK

Provided by Sojourners and the Bruderhof online:

Even in the negative space between us,
God is making new creation.

- Layton E. Williams

--

The foundation of all human rights, equality and
dignity is all of us being created in the image
of God - Imago Dei.

- Jim Wallis

--

We must be impatient for change. Let us remember
that our voice is a precious gift and we must use it.

- Claudia Flores

--

Never, “for the sake of peace and quiet,” deny your
own experience or convictions. The only kind of dignity
which is genuine is that which is not diminished by the
indifference of others. Pray that your loneliness may
spur you into finding something to live for, great enough
to die for. Never measure the height of a mountain until
you have reached the top.

Then you will see how low it was.

- Dag Hammarskjöld

--

Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow;
the same everlasting Father who cares for you today
will take care of you tomorrow and every day. Either
he will shield you from suffering, or he will give you
unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, put
aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations, and say
continually: “The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart has trusted in him and I am helped.

He is not only with me, but in me, and I in him.”

- St. Francis de Sales

--

Deeds are done which appear so evil to us and people
suffer such terrible evils that it does not seem as though
any good will ever come of them; and we consider this,
sorrowing and grieving over it so that we cannot find
peace in the blessed contemplation of God as we should
do, and this is why: our reasoning powers are so blind
now, so humble and so simple, that we cannot know the
high, marvelous wisdom, the might and the goodness
of the Holy Trinity. And this is what he means where
he says, “You shall see for yourself that all manner of
things shall be well”, as if he said, “Pay attention to this
now, faithfully and confidently, and at the end of time
you will truly see it in the fullness of joy.”

- Julian of Norwich

CLOSING THOUGHT - Dillon Burroughs

The true test of faith is how we treat those
who can do nothing for us in return.
